Black & White
Black and White
I’ll be completely honest, Black and White has never been one of my main interests when it comes to photography. While I’m also not the biggest fan of big bright colors, I have always felt that black and white photography just leaves too many images feeling flat and lifeless. In much of my editing over the years, I have been known to use more muted and unsaturated color grades, but I rarely went down the full black and white/monochrome road. Until one day I ran across a talented photographer’s Instagram page who only shot black and white film. I was mesmerized by the life that came bursting out of his images. It inspired me to buy a roll of black and white film and see what I could do! This roll of 400TX is my first effort at black and white photography and I thought a little trip to Savannah with my family would be the perfect opportunity to try it out. I do have several more rolls on their way to me in the mail, and I plan on doing much more b&w photography, but I wanted to share my favorite shot from my first roll. There is a little sentimental story to this photo that I will keep to myself that makes it special to me, but I love the way this colorless photo puts the old tattered buildings in their perfect place. It’s a photo that looks like it was taken in the mid-19th century! I plan on using some of my next rolls to try my hand at some black and white portrait photography, and I will share those with you as well once I have them developed :)
